According to the just released Open Doors 2024 Annual Report, published by the International Institute of Education (IIE), the number of Chinese students registered at universities and colleges in the US dropped for the fourth consecutive year, this time with 4,2% from 289,526 in 2022/23 to 277.398 in 2023/24.
The report concludes that post-covid mobility from China is recovering at a slower pace than outbound mobility from China, and that there is a growing concentration of Chinese students at only a handful of the country’s top-ranked institutions, while many German universities are struggling to attract and retain Chinese students.
